Relaxation and Weight Loss


Weight loss is not a one-day process. Successful and permanent weight loss results from lifestyle change; from developing healthy habits that continue beyond the weight loss process thus making the ideal weight permanent.

There are different habits to develop: eating right foods, exercising regularly, changing negative thinking pattern, etc. Proper relaxation is one of the important habits to develop.

Why is relaxation important?

Relaxation recharges the mind, helps the body release accumulated stress and thus prevents different illnesses from developing. If we don't take relaxation breaks we will eventually get physically sick: this is the body's protection, a way to force us to take the much needed break.

The proper way to relax is to take short breaks after 1.5-2 hours of any activity, be it mental or physical. Take 5-10 minutes break to stretch your body, to walk or just change your activity if you can't afford taking 5 minutes off. If you are in front of computer all day, do some filings, for example. It will help you to relax mentally. Close your eyes for just 5 minutes, if you can, to go inside and recharge.

Why is relaxation important for weight loss?

Constant stress can create different health conditions leading to weight gain. For example, it can be a cause of adrenal insufficiency that contributes to weight gain.

Also when we are tired we tend to become "unconscious". This is a state where we are disconnected from our inner selves and just do things based on physical instincts. In this state we tend to overeat and eat junk food.This is also true when we are depressed, stressed out or don't get enough sleep at night.

If you want to succeed in weight loss and make the weight loss process easier, take periodic relaxation breaks to reconnect to yourself. These short breaks will also help you to replenish your energy and improve your health.
